Comprehensive Insurance
Comprehensive motor insurance typically combines own-damage cover for your car with third-party liability. Coverage depends on the selected insurer and policy.
What it generally covers
- Own damage from accidents, fire, theft or natural calamities (as per policy)
- Third-party bodily injury and property damage liability
- Optional add-ons such as roadside assistance or zero depreciation
What it generally does not cover
- Wear and tear, mechanical breakdown without an insured peril
- Driving without a valid licence or against policy conditions
- Losses excluded in the policy wording or beyond sum insured / IDV
Zero Depreciation
Zero depreciation (also called bumper-to-bumper in marketing) is an add-on that can reduce depreciation deductions on eligible parts during a claim. Coverage is subject to insurer terms and conditions.
Depreciation treatment: Without this add-on, insurers may deduct depreciation on plastic, fibre and metal parts. Zero dep can lower those deductions for covered claims.
Eligible parts: Usually limited to parts listed in the policy; tyres, batteries and consumables may still attract deductions or need separate covers.
Policy conditions: Often available for newer vehicles, with claim limits or age caps. It does not cover everything.
Why buyers choose it: Higher claim payout potential on accidental damage, in exchange for a higher premium.
Popular add-ons
Roadside assistance, engine protection, consumables, key replacement, return to invoice and personal accident — availability depends on insurer terms.
Browse quotesWhy insurance matters
Third-party liability is mandatory in India. Comprehensive cover can help with own damage repair costs. Always read the policy schedule before buying.
How it works
- Pick a vehicle and registration city.
- Choose coverage and optional add-ons.
- Review an indicative premium breakdown (IDV, base, GST).
- Compare demo plans or prepare renewal / claim next steps.
